Malaysia have appointed K. Rajagobal as their national football coach as the country desperately tries to revive its flagging fortunes on the field.
Rajagobal, 53, is currently the U-23 coach and faces a huge task to boost morale at senior level.
“I know and all Malaysians know that I have been given a difficult task, but I will perform my best and will adopt a realistic attitude,” he said.
Malaysia sacked B. Sathianathan as coach in February, less than two weeks after the team lost to the United Arab Emirates in 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualifying.
They were also soundly beaten by the UAE on 21 January, going down 5-0, and in December they crashed out of the South East Asia AFF Suzuki Cup in the group stages.
The national side has fallen a long way since the heady days of the 1970s and 1980s when they regularly beat Japan and Korea Republic and reached two Olympic Football Tournaments.
